Post results to your blog by next class.

Blog: Finish creating links to your classmates blogs (18 total). Post results of Activity Montage project by next week.

Self Design Project 1

This project should utilize two computer applications and a handmade aspect. The point of this project is to create a piece that relies on both handmade and computer based aspects.

Assignment: Create an advertisement for a fictitious (or real) product or event ( you must have the rights to use/represent the product or event (unless your family owns Coca Cola...this would not be an option). Consider what is the pertinent information that must be conveyed; e.i. when, where, how much does it cost. Question to consider: think about how you convey this information, and what that says about the product or event--like the saying, "it's not just what you say, but how you say it that counts."

What form should the advertisement take? It could be a digital image, a printed image (both), a limited or one-of-kind poster...

Questions to answer and return to me via email before next class:

What is the product or event that you are going to advertise for? (a Halloween party at Laural Hill Cemetery on Saturday October 31 (fantasy party))

Give a brief description of your concept for your Advertisement? (I will go to Laural Hill Cemetery and take pictures of zombies chasing innocent youths (all costumed friends) and combine images into one background image using photoshop. End result will look like a "B" Horror Movie Poster.)
How will you execute the project? (I will start with my photo shoot at the cemetery. Then i will use photoshop to create background for poster. Then i will print image and glue text on it for my party event information. This should have a ransom note look to it. Then I will splatter additional fake blood onto the surface of the poster. Then I will take a close-up digital photo of this, so i can enlarge and make reproductions through photoshop.)

Provide a timeline for completing the project: (you will class time next week to work on project)
(This weekend (9/18-20): Photo shoot
Wednesday (9/23): Upload images
Thursday in class(9/24): Begin creating photoshop poster background
Next weekend (9/25-27): Apply text and fake blood to poster, and photograph
Tuesday (9/29): Upscale images in photoshop, and print color poster on 11x 17 paper. Note: I will need help with printing--speak to instructor, and printing lab techs.
Thursday (10/1): Present poster in class.)

Project Due in class October 1, 2009.

Week 3

Overview

Creating a look, and image manipulations. Create an image for your blog header that has a relationship with your blog design and an emphasis on shape and color composition.

In-Class

You will be emailed three images that exemplify a progression of manipulations that develop from one image. In-class you will follow that steps I took to produce each stage of manipulation. The tools covered in this in class demo should be revisited in the completion of your blogger image header (due for homework--see below).

Photoshop

The image you are to create is to be installed (uploaded) and fitted for the header of your blog.

Create an image that you want your audience to associate with you, think image and identity. In photoshop manipulate the image in such a way that it has a visual relationship to the look and design of your blog.

For this assignment one goal is to create an iconic image (an image that has a clear and immediate impact that you think your audience will easily remember—and associate with you). For this, consider the number of images you work with, will it be a single image or a composite of images.

Blog Update

Add as a "gadget" to your blog a "Link List" to class blogs. Blogger will give you steps to take to add class blogs to a list of links. In the coming week you will be asked to add all of the class blogs to your list links.

Week 2

This week you will create a blog site which will be an ongoing project which you will add to, edit, and continue to personalize.

Web projects will include searching and downloading images. Uploading images.

C. Email me your blog web address. _____.blogspot.com.

3. Photoshop: poster project that describes where you are from. Use at least five images and text to create a poster of where you are from. (For print purposes create poster at 8.5 x 11in.)

A. Do a google image search for images that will help you in describing where you are from. Copy images to folder for this project.

B. Open images using photoshop, and create a new file for your poster at 8.5 x 11in, at 72 Dpi.

C. Use color, contrast, free transform tools to adjust your images.

D. Use the layer tool to arrange the position of your images on the canvas.

E. Use the text tool to add text to your poster.

F. While working on you poster save work as a photoshop file (.psd) and when do a save and as and create a copy as a jpeg image file (.jpg)

4. Post completed poster to your blog by next Tuesday evening at 5pm.

Week 1

This is a test for me to assess your level of experience and needs for this class. For this
assignment please use any programs you know or seem the most appropriate to completing each part. If you know that you know nothing when it comes to using a computer--see me, and you will be asked to print images and survey and complete assignment by hand.
Part One:
Download the attached image. (image97.jpg above)
Use a program(s) of your choice to manipulate the image in such a way that you can call it a work of art created by you. Make the image have a new emphasis, effect and impact that shows your voice above and beyond mine.
In doing this please show me your technical skills. Use your technical skills to make your concept clear and your work visually exciting.
Part Two:
Do a google image search for your name. You will be surprised by some of the results... Download at least two images to work with. Combine images into one new picture/image. Add text or letters in some way. Manipulate (cut, copy, colorize...) and work with the images to say something about your self.
Part Three:
After completing parts one and two (be sure to save your work and often). Email me your results (along with source images --minus my orginal picture) as attachments along with your response to the survey below (to this email address). (Survey should be in the body of the email.) Please complete this work by Friday, five o'clock.
Survey:
1. Tell me your name and a little about you yourself.
2. How and why did you choose Moore?
3. Tell me about your two image projects. Part one what do see as the new emphasis in your picture? Part two why did you choose the images you used? What do you hope the audience will see and understand in your new image?
4. Part one how did you acheive your results? Part two, how did you acheive your results?
5. Tell me about your prior experience with computers. How would you describe you computer abilities and knowledge (i.e., no knowledge, general familiarity, skilled surgeon)? What programs do you have experience with and to what degree?
6. What would you like to get out of this class (please describe general or specific goals)?
